The Components
-
The Base: 2 cups heavy cream (cold), 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract.
-
The Apple Stir-in: 2 medium apples (diced), 1 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon.
-
The Toppings: Sea salt caramel sauce and crushed graham crackers or shortbread.
Instructions
1. Prepare the Spiced Apples In a small skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Sauté for about 5–8 minutes until the apples are soft and caramelized. Set them aside to cool completely. Tip: Mixing warm apples into the cream will melt your ice cream instantly, so patience is key!
2. Whip the Cream In a large bowl, whip the cold heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, whisk the vanilla extract into the sweetened condensed milk.
3. Fold and Combine Gently fold the condensed milk mixture into the whipped cream using a spatula. Be careful not to deflate the air. Once smooth, fold in your cooled spiced apples and a handful of crushed cookies for that “pie crust” texture.
4. The Swirl Pour half the mixture into a loaf pan. Drizzle a generous amount of caramel sauce over the top. Add the remaining mixture, more caramel, and use a knife to swirl it gently.
5. Freeze and Serve Cover and freeze for at least 6 hours (or overnight). Scoop into a bowl, drizzle with extra caramel as seen in your photo, and enjoy!
