Easy Mozzarella Sticks

Easy Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients

  • Mozzarella: 12 low-moisture mozzarella string cheese sticks

  • Flour: 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • Eggs: 2 large eggs, beaten

  • Breadcrumbs: 1 cup Panko or Italian seasoned breadcrumbs

  • Seasonings: 1 teaspoon garlic powder and 1 teaspoon dried oregano (or Italian seasoning)

  • Oil: Vegetable oil for frying

  • Sauce: Marinara or pizza sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prep the Cheese: Cut the string cheese sticks in half horizontally if you prefer shorter bites.

  2. Set Up Coating Station: Place the flour in one shallow bowl. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs. In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the garlic powder and dried oregano.

  3. Coat the Cheese: Dredge a cheese stick in the flour, shaking off the excess. Dip it into the egg, then roll it in the breadcrumbs until fully coated.

  4. Double Coat: Dip the stick back into the egg and into the breadcrumbs one more time. This double-coating prevents the cheese from leaking out while cooking. Repeat for all sticks.

  5. Freeze: Place the coated cheese sticks on a tray and freeze them for at least 1 to 2 hours. Do not skip this step, or the cheese will melt too quickly.

  6. Cook: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the frozen sticks in small batches for about 1 to 2 minutes until they are golden brown.

  7. Serve: Drain on paper towels and serve warm with a side of heated marinara sauce.
