Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 1½ lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For Tzatziki:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • ½ cucumber, grated and squeezed dry
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Serving:

  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced
  • Fresh parsley or dill

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: Combine olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Add chicken and coat well. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Make Tzatziki: Mix Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, dill, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  3. Cook Chicken: Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook chicken for 5–7 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until browned and the center reaches 165°F (74°C). Rest for 5 minutes, then slice.
  4. Assemble Gyros: Warm the pita breads. Add sliced chicken, tomato, red onion, and a generous spoonful of tzatziki.
  5. Serve: Garnish with fresh dill or parsley and serve immediately.
