Golden Fried Dough Balls

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk or water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp melted butter or oil
  • Oil for frying

Optional syrup coating

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla or honey

Instructions

  1. Make the dough
    Mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, egg, and melted butter. Stir until you get a soft, sticky dough.
  2. Let it rise
    Cover and rest for 45–60 minutes, until doubled.
  3. Make syrup
    Boil sugar, water, and lemon juice for 5–7 minutes. Add vanilla or honey. Let cool.
  4. Heat oil
    Heat oil over medium heat.
  5. Shape balls
    Use oiled hands or a piping bag/spoon to drop small dough balls into the hot oil.
  6. Fry
    Fry until golden brown, turning often, about 3–5 minutes.
  7. Coat
    Remove and drain. Dip warm balls into syrup or drizzle with honey.
  8. Serve
    Serve warm and enjoy!
