🍰 Classic Vanilla Butter Cake
A soft, moist, buttery vanilla cake with a tender crumb. Perfect for birthdays, tea time, or as a base for frosting and layered cakes.
📝 Ingredients
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- ½ cup (120 ml) milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prepare the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour a 9-inch round cake pan. You can also line the bottom with parchment paper.
2. Cream the butter and sugar
Add softened butter and sugar to a large mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer for 3–5 minutes, until light, fluffy, and pale.
3. Add the eggs
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
4. Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
5. Add flour and milk
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour. Mix only until combined—do not overmix.
6. Fill the pan
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
7. Bake
Bake for 30–38 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
8. Cool
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes. Carefully remove it and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
