FRENCH TOAST ROLL UPS
Since French toast is actually my favourite breakfast food, these French Toast Roll Ups are a fantastic choice for breakfast on the go. I genuinely adore all breakfast dishes, so I find it perplexing that we don’t have them at every meal. LOL. I’m thrilled to share this recipe for French toast roll-ups with you all today as I work to limit the amount of sugar in our home and serve more wholesome meals. In addition to lowering the sugar content, I have increased the protein content of the “roll-up” component by adding nut butter. Protein is a crucial component of breakfast since it keeps the body burning calories and the brain functioning.
RECIPE FOR FRENCH TOAST ROLL UPS WITH LESS SUGAR
These can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. For my family, I used whole wheat bread, creamy almond butter (rather than peanut butter), unsweetened almond milk (rather than cow’s milk), and a light dusting of cinnamon and sugar because I wanted to increase protein and decrease sugar. Instead of the 1/3–1/2 cup that other recipes call for, I used just one tablespoon of sugar for this entire batch of French Toast Roll Ups.

INGREDIENTS FOR TOAST ROLL UPS
- 10 pieces of bread made from whole wheat
- 113 grammes of almond butter, or one third of a cup
- 59 ml unsweetened vanilla almond milk (1/4 cup)
- 12 grammes sugar (1 tbsp)
- 8 grammes of ground cinnamon (1 tbsp)
- 14 grammes butter (1 tbsp)
INSTRUCTION FOR FRENCH TOAST ROLL UPS
- Remove the crusts from the bread, and then flatten it using a rolling pin.
- A layer of almond butter was spread on each slice of bread.
- In a bowl, crack two eggs, then add almond milk and stir the ingredients together.
- Mix the sugar and cinnamon together. I used a powdered sugar shaker to evenly distribute my over the roll ups after putting mine in the shaker.
- Bread slices are rolled and then pressed down to form rolls, which are then placed as rapidly as possible into an egg mixture (not letting it sit for too long).
- Cinnamon sugar should be evenly distributed.
- Put the butter in a pan and heat it up until it melts. Cook the roll-ups in batches, placing many at a time in the pan.
- Sear the meat until it is crisp and golden brown on both sides. Immediately serve after cooking.
These roll-ups are a big hit with my family. They are sweet and crunchy, and they fit easily in little hands as we dash out the door. I enjoy feeding them a nutritious breakfast that will keep them going throughout the day, whether they are headed to camp, school, sports, or other activities.
