The BEST Recipe for Homemade Turkish Bread (Pide)
- 500g of wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 7 g of dry yeast
- 250 ml of lukewarm water
- 50 ml of olive oil
- 1 natural yogurt (optional)
- 1 egg (for painting)
- Sesame or nigella seeds (optional)
- Mix the dry yeast, sugar, and warm water in a small bowl. Let it sit for 10 minutes until it foams.
- Sift the flour into a large bowl, add the salt and make a well in the center.
- Pour the yeast mixture, olive oil, and yogurt into the center. Mix until combined.
- Knead for 8-10 minutes on a floured surface until you obtain a smooth and elastic dough.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth and let it rise for 1 hour.
- Degas the dough, shape it into a circle or oval and place it on a tray lined with parchment paper.
- Make marks on the surface with your fingers, paint with beaten egg and decorate with seeds.
- Bake at 200°C for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- Yogurt can be substituted with milk or omitted.
- Can you freeze baked bread?
