Perfect Churros with Hot Chocolate Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup white sugar, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For Hot Chocolate:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup high-quality dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

Churros:

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove it from heat.
  2. Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball. Let it cool for a couple of minutes.
  3. Heat 2 quarts of oil in a deep fryer or large pan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  4. Scoop the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 4-inch strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting with scissors. Fry churros until golden brown, turning as needed. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in the mixture while still hot.

Hot Chocolate:

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and heavy cream. Heat until it starts to simmer.
  2. Add the chopped dark chocolate to the milk mixture. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted.
  3. Stir in sugar and vanilla extract. Continue to heat and stir until the hot chocolate is smooth and creamy. Adjust sugar to taste.
