Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 quarts oil for frying
- 1/2 cup white sugar, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For Hot Chocolate:
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup high-quality dark chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Churros:
- In a saucepan, combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove it from heat.
- Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball. Let it cool for a couple of minutes.
- Heat 2 quarts of oil in a deep fryer or large pan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Scoop the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 4-inch strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting with scissors. Fry churros until golden brown, turning as needed. Drain on paper towels.
- Mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in the mixture while still hot.
Hot Chocolate:
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and heavy cream. Heat until it starts to simmer.
- Add the chopped dark chocolate to the milk mixture. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted.
- Stir in sugar and vanilla extract. Continue to heat and stir until the hot chocolate is smooth and creamy. Adjust sugar to taste.
Serve the Perfect Churros with Hot Chocolate:
- Arrange the churros on a plate or in a basket.
