Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate Smoothie
This recipe mimics the cozy flavor of hot cocoa but delivers it in a creamy, chilled format.
Prep time: 5 mins | Servings: 1
Ingredients
Frozen Base: 1 large banana (frozen in chunks for creaminess)
Liquid: 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or oat milk)
Protein & Flavor: 2 tbsp creamy natural peanut butter
Chocolate: 1.5 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
Sweetener: 1-2 soft Medjool dates (pitted) or 1 tbsp maple syrup
Texture: 1/4 cup rolled oats (certified gluten-free) or 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
The “Chill”: 1/2 cup ice cubes
Optional Toppings (as seen in the photo):
Coconut whipped cream
A drizzle of melted peanut butter
Dark chocolate shavings
Instructions
Layer the Blender: Add the liquid first, followed by the cocoa powder, peanut butter, and sweetener. This prevents the powder from sticking to the sides.
Add Solids: Add the frozen banana, oats (or protein powder), and ice.
Blend: Start on a low speed and gradually increase to high. Blend for 45–60 seconds until the texture is completely velvety.
Garnish: Pour into a glass. Top with a dollop of coconut whip, a swirl of peanut butter, and chocolate shavings for that professional look.
Pro-Tips for the Best Texture
Too Thick? Add an extra splash of milk 1 tablespoon at a time.
Too Thin? Add two more ice cubes or a tablespoon of chia seeds and blend again.
The “Hot” Factor: If you actually want it warm, swap the frozen banana for a fresh one, skip the ice, and use warm (not boiling) plant milk.
Note: Using natural peanut butter (just peanuts and salt) provides the best flavor and prevents the smoothie from becoming overly sugary.
