Classic Spaghetti Bolognese

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 400g (14 oz) spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, grated carrot, and chopped celery to the skillet. Sauté until vegetables are tender.
  3. Pour in crushed tomatoes, red wine (if using), and tomato paste. Stir to combine.
  4. Season with dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  5. Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain.
  6. Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with fresh parsley and Parmesan cheese.
