Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ¾ cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water

For the Frosting:

  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups (440g) powdered sugar
  • ½ cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup (120ml) whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Mix the Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat the eggs. Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  5. Add Boiling Water: Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is well blended. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay.
  6. Bake the Cakes: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the Cakes: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Prepare the Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with the milk, and beat until smooth. Add the vanilla extract and salt, and continue to beat until the frosting is fluffy.
  9. Assemble the Cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top, and spread frosting over the top and sides of the cake.
  10. Serve and Enjoy: Slice and serve your rich and decadent chocolate cake. Enjoy!
