Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, marinate the sliced flank steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sugar, and black pepper. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or skillet over high heat. Add the marinated steak and stir-fry until browned. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed. Sauté onions, bell peppers, garlic, and ginger until vegetables are tender-crisp.
  4. Return the cooked steak to the pan with the vegetables.
  5. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Pour this sauce over the steak and vegetables, tossing to coat evenly.
  6. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through and well-coated in the sauce.
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve over rice or noodles.
